About this Item
1st edition hardcover in beige cloth quite grubby. Vintage adverts in the first few pages, foxing on first and last few pp, internally pretty clean. 703 p. In producing Who's Who in Racing, Tote Investors, Ltd, have endeavored to provide a really up-to-date (as of 1939), and comprehensive reference book dealing with the social side of the sport. In addition to those racing and training on a big scale many smaller owners and trainers, as also club members, are brought to notice. Another feature is the section devoted to Studs which are approached from a new angle. The whole-hearted cooperation of owners and managers has facilitated the completion of particulars concerning a number of the chief bloodstock breeding establishments in England, Ireland and France. Notes on the locality and the most convenient routes, together with the accomodation available, make interesting reading, and in addition names of the stallions, present and past, with a list of their most important successes provide useful information that no prospective owner can do without. The last section will be welcomed by those who, from time to time, wish to delve into the facts concerning past winners of important events. Here will be found the results of the principal races in the Calendar for the past twenty years in a style never before attempted. Thus in tabular form the placed horses are set out with owner, trainer, jockey and the weight carried, thereby adding enormously to the interest and the historical value of the statistics.
