Item description from seller

First published in London by The League for Democracy in Greece, this pamphlet was meant to publicize the case of Tony Ambatielos (1914-1995), a Greek-born seaman who emigrated to Great Britain and founded the Communist Federation of Greek Maritime Unions. After the end of WWII, Tony and his British wife, Betty Bartlett, returned to Greece where they were caught in the civil war between Communists and anti-Communists. Tony was arrested in 1947 and eventually sentenced to death for his Communist and trade union activities. Through the tireless efforts of his wife, her family and other international Leftists, his sentence was commuted and he was released in 1974. He became a Communist politician before dying in 1995. Stapled, illustrated wrappers (8 ¼" x 5 ½"), [32] p., illustrations by Keller. Small chip to the bottom corner of the front wrapper, light edgewear, but VG. Eight copies in OCLC, scarce in the trade.
