This VG+ quality first edition book was published in 1971 by Grosset & Dunlap. It is 7-5/8" tall and has 180 numbered pages of text; it is format #3, as per Mattson & Davis's bibliography (Grosset & Dunlap; 7-5/8"; pictorial composition binding, medium blue spine & back cover with black lettering for title, white lettering for author; pictorial front, in colors; spine & back cover are light orange [or "school bus yellow"]; decorated end pages are black line drawings depicting the same scene as the early end pages did; frontis +8 to +11 full or partial page illustration, all on plain paper. No dust jacket). This book is square, extremely clean, with no corner bumps or edge dings; heel of spine is lightly bumped without fabric damage and very little color loss; the bottom edges have virtually no wear except at the heel of the spine which has slight color loss. The colors on the front panel are not faded or damaged and are quite graphic, nearly photographic, in nature. The spine is not faded. However, there is a 5/16" fabric tear at the bottom of the front gutter (see photo). The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. The hinges are strong and not damaged in any way. The frontis and other illustrations are intact. The paper is quite flexible.
