About this Item
First edition, second printing ("zweite Auflage" on title page). 8o. Pictorial cloth. Very good copy, spine slightly slanted as usual. 1917 Vienna ownership inscription on half-title. With eight full-page plates by Fritz Bergen. The author is primarily associated with the German film industry of the silent era, as a writer of screenplays and director. The really cool pictorial cover shows a biplane over the skyscrapers of lower Manhattan. A most unusual Wall Street novel with John D. Rockefeller appearing as a character; in the previous decade the author spent a few years working as a journalist in New York. The hero, Tom Hansom, gets a job as a "Schnellboy" on the Stock Exchange and meanwhile experiments with flying machines. The book is dedicated to Otto Lilienthal and the Wright Brothers.
