Written for tiger lovers, photographers and naturalists alike, Tigers, a Celebration of Life, is educational and inspirational for all ages and interests.
The book begins with a heartfelt forward by BBC Naturalist Mark Cardwardine (star of the highly acclaimed Last Chance to See BBC series), which really sets the tone for the book. The first half of the book is then comprised of stunning galleries of Rouse's work, all tied to a particular aspect of a tiger's life. The difference with this book from many others is that it is peppered with Rouse's personal experiences and anecdotes from working with wild tigers in the field. For example you will read the full story of the incredible fight sequence and how Rouse was stalked by a wild tiger.
For tiger photographers of all skill levels, Rouse has included a section on tiger photography which draws on his years of experience to help the reader get great pictures of tigers and other big cats.
The final third of the book is dedicated to tiger conservation and what you can do to help them. To supplement his own knowledge, Rouse has unselfishly called on the expertise of a world-renowned tiger expert, Sarah Christie, who is the Zoological Society of London's tiger expert and founder of 21st Century Tiger. For this book she has written several essays on tiger status and practical solutions to their conservation. Many readers will not realise the role of zoos in tiger conservation and a joint essay from Rouse and Christie seeks to educate the public as to their role. This book will inspire many to want to see tigers in the wild and the final section of the book covers ecotourism and begins with an essay from Aditya Singh(a hotelier and tiger addict from Ranthambhore National Park in India). Then follows detailed information from Andy Rouse on where to go to see tigers and all the things that you need to know when planning your trip. This is based on years of taking groups of tourists on tiger safaris and will help you get the most out of your tiger experience.
Tigers, a Celebration of Life, is a beautiful book, packed with inspiring images and thought provoking text. Rouse says "I have worked very hard on the text to ensure that my emotional connection with tigers shines through and encourages you to love these amazing cats".
So far the book has been a great success, BBC Wildlife magazine just reviewed the book and gave it 4 stars with the final comment "a beautiful and inspiring offering to win over tiger lovers". Here also are some reader comments from people who have already purchased the book:
"It is fantastic, not just great images but fantastic information too. I love it and also the print that came with the Special Edition copy."
"I got my copy - can't put it down, it's awesome"
"Fantastic book Andy!, can recommend the Collectors Edition to anyone, the print alone is worth the extra, let alone the donation to tiger conservation!"
"Can't put the book down - stunning photos and an inspiration for helping save the tiger."
"Breathtaking images, but that's expected, it's the commitment to the tiger and its environment that comes from every line of text which grabs the attention."
"This book is inspiring. In 2010 the Year of the Tiger, it is great that photographers and conservationists come together on such an important issue as saving the wild tiger"
"A stunning collection of images which are accompanied by a personal, and thought provoking, narrative. The developing style of Andy Rouse has produced another outstanding book, a must for any collection."
Tigers, a Celebration of Life, has been designed by the award winning Eddie Ephraums. It is a beautiful book to own and one where each purchase will be making a difference to the future of this amazing cat.
