FIRST EDITION. Large octavo, pp xvi, 379, [1], [4] catalogue. Map frontispiece, 14 monochrome plates as called for, and numerous line drawings throughout text. Publishers' midnight blue cloth with gilt titles to spine and owl motif to upper board. Spine tips creased and corners bruised. Scattered light foxing, mainly to text-block edge, and free endpapers toned as usual, otherwise contents clean with no annotation or inscriptions. A Very Good copy. History of Civilization series. Detailed study of the life and customs of the peoples of the islands including their religious beliefs, rituals and mythology.
