Item description from seller

A vanishingly scarce collection of poetry from English scholar and author, Hugh Stuart Boyd, the first edition, bound in half calf. The first edition. An exceptionally scarce work. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Endpapers have been renewed with the blanks and half title retained. A collection of poetry from English author and scholar of Greek, Hugh Stuart Boyd. Known for his academic prowess and strong memory, Boyd taught Greek to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, who dedicated a number of sonnets to him. The titular poem of this collection, 'Thoughts on an Illustrious Exile' surrounds the indignation the author felt following the death of Bonaparte and the immediate persecution of the South of France. With fourteen other poems in this work, including two written in Greek. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and a little loss to the rear corner. The odd mark to boards, with a little discolouration. Endpapers have been renewed with the blanks and half title retained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the odd mark. Very Good Indeed.…
