Third Views, Second Sights is an end-of-the-century geographical exploration patterned after the first surveys of the nineteenth century updated with new techniques and sensibilities. The book includes forty- three sights, field notes that provide a chronological account of Third view work during three field sessions. PLEASE NOTE THE C/D IS MISSING. The back panel of the D/J has a tear to its top edge which has been repaired with a white paper patch on the inside, there is a small hole near the bottom edge and there is also creasing near the base of the spine There are also some indents on the front of the D/W. The text block and brown cloth covered boards are tight clean and Nr Fine.

Includes bonus interactive DVD. In the 19th century the great expeditionary photographers William Henry Jackson, T H O''Sullivan, and William Bell first photographed American western landscapes for the geological and geographical surveys. Mark Klett, Chief photographer of the Rephotographic Survey Project, revisited and rephotographed these 19th-century sites during the late 1970s, presenting 120 pairs of photographs separated by a century of change. Two decades later, Klett organised a new survey team to rephotograph 110 sites. This book presents forty-three pairings from the third survey, documenting two periods of geologic and environmental changes while exploring changing human perceptions of landscape. Mark Klett is associate professor of art at Arizona State University and the author of Revealing Territory: Photography of the Southwest (University of New Mexico Press), and The Black Rock Desert (Desert Places) with William L Fox (University of Arizona Press).
