First edition, first printing, of this title which won the Hart, Schaffner, and Marx international prize in 1927 whilst still in manuscript, and was heavily revised before publication here. Responsible, together with Charles W. Cobb, for the famous Cobb-Douglas production function, Douglas was "a pioneer econometrician whose work had as its starting point the marginal productivity of his teacher John Bates Clark. His work at Chicago as a teacher enabled him to organise research projects designed to test the marginal productivity theory of distribution. The Theory of Wages contains his main contribution to this field" (Who's Who in Economics). Octavo. With numerous charts and a folding table. Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Previous ownership inscription to front free endpaper, some neat pencil annotations to the text. Spine faded with cloth partly split along rear joint, ends frayed with a few nicks, extremities a little worn, two areas of text block lightly crushed, else a very good copy, the contents bright.
