A very good copy of the first two-volume hard cover edition (the dates on the copyright and title pages correspond; no other additional printings noted), lacking dust-jackets. The text of each volume is wholly unmarked, pristine, and the green cloth binding with gilt devices and lettering are still quite bright and fresh in appearance. There is a 1/2" intact tear at the top of the spine of volume I, and a couple of small bits of spotting to the top page edge of the volume. Very faint dampstain to top corner of the first three dozen pages of Volume II, with two additional bits of spotting to the margin side of the volume, affecting pages 205-330, visible on thye very edges of the margins, if at all. Slight wrinkle to page edges of this volume, as from ambient moisture, running from pages 225-370. A bit of foxing to the top edges of the volumes. The bindings are quite solid: no evidence of splitting or cracking to the gutters. A lovely set.
