Add to basketTAPS FOR PRIVATE TUSSIE JESSE STUART WITH BENTON ILLUSTRATIONS 1943 BOMC NEWSLETTER. This title is not that uncommon and must have been an American favorite when it was first published. Please find on offer here: "Taps for Private Tussie," by Jesse Stuart, illustrated by Thomas Benton. This book has a lot going for it. It was the 1943 winner of the Thomas Jefferson Award for Southern Literature and is also the Book-of-the-Month Club Selection for December 1943. Laid-in is the newsletter about the book reprinted from the BOMC News that was written by Dorothy Canfield. Thomas Hart Benton s illustrations are both numerous and great fun; it is something for which the Artist is well-known. The book is bound in light green cloth with red titles on cover and spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket. This small hard cover book (6 x 8 ½ inches, 303 pages) was published by E.P. Dutton & Co. of New York, dated 1943 and a First Edition thus (albeit a later reprint with the Benton illustrations). Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows a good deal of edge wear, particularly along the top edge which has many shallow chips. The hard covers are clean but dust-dulled but without bumping or bruising. Inside, a former owner has left his name and date on the front endpaper. The interior pages are clean throughout but lightly toned (or perhaps not). There is some darkening to the endpaper, doubtless from the acids of the binding glues. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
