This novel by Cleife features an artist named Martyn Finch. Finch, an ex-pilot, who now makes a decent living painting sea and sky-scapes, decides on a vacation to Spain with his girl friend, Katey. In Segovia, Katey vanishes with Finch's car and possessions. On the very edge of down-and-out, Finch accepts a job piloting a decripit old airplane and then suddenly finds himself forging a Salvador Dali painting. And, of course, when he admists the forgery, no one, especially the experts, will believe him. First Printing, First U.S. Edition (as stated, with a complete numberline on the back end page following the last page of text), a Harper Novel of Suspense. About 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches, 247 pages in light blue cloth-covered boards and black back strip with white and blue lettering. Front panel of dustjacket shows a surrealistic blue airplane shaped like a shark hovering in a pale yellow sky above a moon with a Dali-esque face, including the mustache. Back panel shows b & w photo of author. Boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked, no significant flaws of any kind except light bumping at top end of spine. Not ex-library. Dustjacket shows a touch of edgewear but no tears, creases or scratches. Not price-clipped. A collectable copy. If you like art crime mysteries with a touch of humor, this is one for your collection.…
