Text/NEW & Bright. Illustrated boards/Fine. DJ/None As Issued. 2000 First Edition, First Thus. A children's book about the Persian walnut. Author Phillip Eugene Hauck (1920 - 2016) had a 66 acre walnut orchard in Atwater, CA. --- well earning the appellation of "Mr. Walnut" ! Religious history tells us the walnut was present in the Garden of Eden, home to Adam & Eve before being expelled for disobeying God, and, the Bible says the nut was the celebratory gift the Three Wise Men presented to Joseph on the birth of Jesus. Historical records show Roman emperors so enjoyed it they attributed the walnut as a gift to man from the god Jupiter, and, Chinese emperors long prized the nut before pilgrims introduced it to America. This story, for children, is a mini-travelogue through history of this Middle Eastern fruit, is told by Mr. Wally Walnut. Legends & lore deftly interwoven w/historical accounts with botanical science, horticulture & agriculture. 23 pgs, beautifully illustrated by Audrey Rawlings Arena, is proceeded by critical, unedited, book Reviews from children, and, concludes w/walnut recipes & Glossary.…
