Synopsis:

Contains over 70 experiments, complete with notes and ingredients with the focus on Tryptamines. The first half concentrates on Shulgin's spiritual journey, ideas and philosophy. Foreword by Daniel M Perrine and preface by Nicholas Saunders. Edited by Dan Joy.

About the Authors: Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin (June 17, 1925 - June 2, 2014) was an American medicinal chemist, biochemist, organic chemist, pharmacologist, psychopharmacologist, and author. He is credited with introducing MDMA ("ecstasy", "mandy" or "molly") to psychologists in the late 1970s for psychopharmaceutical use, and for the discovery, synthesis and personal bioassay of over 230 psychoactive compounds for their psychedelic and entactogenic potential.

Ann Shulgin co-founded Transform Press in 1991 with her husband, Sasha Shulgin, out of their shared passion and commitment to an uncensored examination of psychoactive compounds. Through the Press they co-authored and published PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story (1991) and TiHKAL: The Continuation (1997), the two cult classics based on their psychedelic experiences. They also contributed jointly to several other publications including, The Secret Chief, The Secret Chief Revealed, Entheogens and the Future of Religion, and Ecstasy: The Complete Guide. Ann has served as a lay therapist facilitating the use of MDMA and 2CB in therapeutic settings while those substances were still legal. She brings a Jungian orientation to her examination of psychedelic experiences, with a particular emphasis on the integration of the Shadow and an overarching theme of spirituality and unification with the divine in all things.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. TIHKAL: The Continuation by Alexander and Ann Shulgin. Transform Press, 2002. Stated first edition softcover with a difficult condition rating. Covers are bright and square, binding tight, slight rub on rear cover, text block clean, unmarked and untoned. But, the book is warped, not from getting wet but from poor storage and requires pressing to straighten it out. At that point, the book would be in near fine condition (see photos). The companion volume to PIHKAL, TIHKAL (Tryptamines I Have Known and Loved), blends memoir, chemistry and experiential accounts of tryptamine psychedelics. A stated first edition softcover, even with warping, is highly desirable due to the Shulgin's iconic status in psychedelic literature. Seller Inventory # 000882

Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition Seventh Printing Stated. 804 Pages. Light speckling on bottom page edges and front cover shows very minor wear. Interior text pages bright, tight, and white. Book I: The Story Continues. This is the continuation of the love story from PIHKAL: A Chemical Love Story with a blend of travel, botanical facts, scientific speculation, psychological and political commentary. Book II: The Chemistry Continues. Describes in detail a wealth of tryptamines in the same format as Book II of PIHKAL, plus appendices presenting topics such as cactus alkaloids, natural beta-carbolines, current drug law, and all known tryptamines (from the literature) that might be psychedelic. The title stands for "Tryptamines I Have Known and Loved"; sequel to "Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved." Cookbooks, and far more -- accounts of a ruthless government's demented suppression of the God-given right of Americans to voluntarily explore their own consciousness. Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin, godfather of modern psychedelics, introduced 2C-B and DOM, and rediscovered and reintroduced MDMA. Of his first experience with mescaline sulfate, he wrote in 2001: "More than anything else the world amazed me, in that I saw it as I had when I was a child. I had forgotten the beauty and the magic and the knowingness of it and me. I was in familiar territory, a space wherein I had once roamed as an immortal explorer, and I was recalling everything that had been authentically known to me then, and which I had abandoned, then forgotten, with my coming of age. Like the touchstone that recalls a dream to sudden presence, the experience reaffirmed a miracle of excitement that I had known in my childhood but had been pressured to forget. The most compelling insight of that day was that this awesome recall had been brought about by a fraction of a gram of white solid, but that in no way whatsoever could it be argued that these memories had been contained within the white solid. Everything that I had recognized had come from the depths of my memory and my psyche. I understood that our entire universe is contained in the mind and the spirit. We may choose not to find access to it, we may even deny its existence, but it is indeed there inside us, and there are chemicals that can catalyze its availability. Seller Inventory # 22387
