Item description from seller

A science textbook for upper level students. This is legit science but dodgy publishing. Condition is Good. Black leather spine with cloth boards. Ex-library Conn. Public Library but quite nice considering. Library markings are on the spine, front end paper, copyright page and last page. 473 pages packed with interesting engravings. Foxing throughout. Binding is sound. Volume covers fluid dynamics, electricity, steam power and, of course, pyronomics. Feel free to inquire. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: The so called 'Eighth Edition' is actually the first edition (read on). I did a little research. Professor Moffat published a similar text in London in 1835 aimed at younger students (The Boy's Book of Science). Johnson published "The Scientific Class-Book" in 1835 (Philadelphia) aimed at older students using Moffat's work as the outline. That work seems to be the same as this one. In 1847 the publisher changed the title to what you see here although contents appear unchanged. I have seen this before. The publisher wants everyone to think this text is popular so he says "Eighth Edition" but more like the 8th printing, maybe, probably not, you can decide. You cannot find this title with an earlier edition stated. More Notes: Walter R. Johnson was an educator and prolific author of scientific papers and texts.
