Royal octavo (9 3/4" x 8 1/2") Appendix is the Florentine Codex on Goldsmiths and their Methods. 1st edition. In this work Andre Emmerich has written the first comprehensive study of pre-Columbian gold and silver work, from the early hammered sheet-gold ornaments of the Chavin culture of Peru, ca 800-500 B.C., to the intricate cast-gold jewelry of the Aztecs and Mixtecs. It is a story that could not have been written a generation ago, for most of the important archaeological discoveries have been made during the past three decades. Emerich's very readable account brings together, for the first time, all that has become known to the present time. Condition: Corners bumped.
