Octavo; pp; 109, (iii),; illustrated with a black and white frontispiece portrait of the author, thirty pages of reproduced cyanotype photographs comprising forty-four images and three large folding maps; original printed pictorial color wrappers; Text is in German; Scarce, OCLC locates just a single copy in a German library. Emil Racovi (1868-1947) was a Romanian biologist, zoologist, speleologist, and explorer of Antarctica. He was the first biologist in the world to study the arctic life. Together with Grigore Antipa, he was one of the most noted promoters of natural sciences in Romania. Racovi was the first Romanian to have gone on a scientific research expedition to the Antarctic, as well as an influential professor, scholar and researcher. An ex-United States Air Force library copy with a pocket and stamp on rear inside cover and a small removed label on the front wrapper, else solid, clean and complete, very good.
