"More than seventy-five years ago Abraham Lincoln freed the American Negro from physical slavery. His mission was not to save us from mental slavery - inferiority complex - a lack of appreciation of our ability - our powers, our opportunities. This task of working out our destiny, our success, was left to us. In these seventy-five years and more, we have progressed far toward the goal of full, complete, American citizenship - an effective citizenship, damned and cursed by the greatest of all hindrances to progress - an inferiority complex within ourselves, both as to our racial and individual abilities." - pages 15-16. xiv, 15-102 p. Black and white photographic frontispiece portait of author. Includes contributions from several additional sources/authors. Styles also wrote "Negroes and The Law" in 1937. Former library copy with usual markings. Sturdily rebound in olive buckram. A sound copy of this early black American self-help book.; 12mo.
