NYC's Stuyvesant Town served as the nation's first urban redevelopment plan that bulldozed the Gashouse District of NYC and replaced it with a suburb-within-the-city housing plan for 24,000; except they also instituted a no-Negro policy; essentially designing a White middle-class fortress, in-turn creating a housing blueprint for systemic racism and segregation. This blueprint would find itself in use throughout America; and as a result, Stuyvesant Town USA became a pattern for two very different Americas.
