Item description from seller

Xxv, 210 Pp. Black Cloth, Gilt. First Printing, 1923 Date On Title Page, Copyright 1922 And Forewoird Dated June 1922. Cloth With Some Rubbing, Especially At Corners, But Gilt Brilliant, No Fraying, Hinges Solid But Spine Leaned, Former Owner's Name In Ink On Front Pastedown With A Few Pencil Notes In Text And Pencil Graph On Blank Rear Endpaper. Excellent Evidence Of The Single-Minded Emphasis In American Education On Preparation For Aggesive Military Action- Unfortunately Not Unlike Every Other Contemporary Country Purportedly A Report On Trends In Intelligence Of The American Population Based Largely On Statistical Results Of The Wwi Army Testing Program, And Interpretations Based On Then-Current Racial Stereotypes And Theories, Citing Madison Grant In Particular, And Was Written As An Anthropological Study By A Person Who Admits Almost No Anthropological Study Or Training. The Author Is Primarily Concerned With "Americans", "Immigrants", And "Negroes", Never Considering That The Classes Are Neither Exclusive Nor Of Any Scientific Validity. Often Cited, This Notorious Study Is Itself Quite Scarce In This First Edition, First Printing. Worldcat Records Only 7 Institutional Holdings, Although The 1975 Reprint Is Commonly Encountered. No Corresponding Contemporary Study Of Similar Trends Of American Knowledge, Skills, Or Abilities In Any Field Other Than Those Studied Here, That Is, Preparation For Modern Soldiering - Americans Make "Better Soldiers", So We Should Restrict Immigration Severely So All Immigrants Will Most Closely Resemble Native-Born Americans? Isn't That What The Gorillas Say About Immigrants Into Their Areas? Per Wikipedia, Carl Campbell Brigham (May 4, 1890 – January 24, 1943) Was An American Eugenicist And Professor Of Psychology At Princeton University's Department Of Psychology And A Pioneer In The Field Of Psychometrics. Brigham Joined Princeton As A Faculty Member In 1920 And Began Working On Adapting The Army Mental Tests For Use In College Admissions.[7] This Test Became Highly Controversial As A Methodology For Testing Mental Ability Due To Its Biases Favoring Caucasian [White] Native-Born Americans. In 1923, Brigham Published His Influential Book, A Study Of American Intelligence. Analyzing The Data From The World War I Army Mental Tests, Brigham Concluded That Native-Born (Caucasian) Americans Had The Highest Intelligence Out Of The Groups Tested. He Proclaimed The Intellectual Superiority Of The "Nordic Race" And The Inferiority Of The "Alpine" (Eastern European), "Mediterranean", And "Negro" Races And Argued That Immigration Should Be Carefully Controlled To Safeguard The "American Intelligence". Brigham Believed That In The Early Years Of The Twentieth Century, American Intelligence Was Declining Because Of Recent Immigration Waves From Eastern Europe ("Carl Campbell Brigham: The Man Who Devised The Sat"). Harvard Professor E.G. Boring Suggested That Brigham Was Not Collecting Data With Scientific Purpose Which Biased His Results In Favor Of His Ideas (1923). He Sat On The Advisory Council Of The American Eugenics Society (Later Known As The Society For Biodemography And Social Biology)[1] And His Early Writings Heavily Influenced The Eugenics Movement And Anti-Immigration Legislation In The United States. He Created The Sat For The College Board. His Wikipedia Portrait Photo Bears An Uncanny Resemblance To A Gorilla.…
