First Edition. [xvi], 213, [2] pp. Full claret morocco with all gilt lettering, Tudor crest and Parliamentary seal to front board, with raised bands, gilt compartments and lettering to spine; gilt Tudor textile patterned endpapers, top edge gilt. Beautifully bound by Zaehnsdorf, reproducing the design on the standard cloth edition. Minor rubbing to extremities and minimal marks to rear board. The title page is signed by the author, leading us to reasonably assume this is either his own copy or a handsome presentation. Illustrated throughout with black & white plates by Roscoe Gibbs as well as 2 extra plates bound in and two further plates pasted front and back. Crease to front endpaper. 8vo. We have been trading in Chiswick for 55 years - come and visit us in our bow-windowed c18th shop. All of our shipments are now tracked. Stephen Foster ; Foster Books, 183 Chiswick High Road, London W4 2DR. Old and rare books, a good turnover of stock leaning towards Arts subjects. Fine bindings, illustrated, literature. Only 5 minutes walk from Turnham Green tube station on the District Line in West London. The Chiswick shop is open Monday to Saturday 10-30 to 17-30 GMT and most Sundays 11 to 5 and earlier at the beginning of the month when the Flower and Antiques Markets are on in front of the shop (by all means call in advance to be sure). We only list a small proportion of the ever changing stock.
