The Strand Magazine - February 1925 (London: George Newnes 1925). Contains the first instalment of a new Sherlock Holmes story "The Illustrious Client" by Arthur Conan Doyle and "Honeysuckle Cottage" by P G Wodehouse. First UK Edition. Soft cover (not issued with a D/W. Very Good indeed with the staples rusted (as expected) and with minor surface loss in places to the spine. The front and back covers are bright and clean with no loss. The Strand Magazine was a monthly British magazine founded by George Newnes, composed of short fiction and general interest articles. It was published in the United Kingdom from January 1891 to March 1950, running to 711 issues, This issue from February 1925 is important in that it features Sherlock Holmes on the front cover (wearing a smart, white, homburg hat and a white double-breasted coat) with the Strand in the background. Includes part 1 of The Adventure of the Illustrious Client by A Conan Doyle, a Sherlock Holmes short story and illustrated by Howard K Elcock. Also includes "Honeysuckle Cottage" by P G Wodehouse (illustrated by Treyer Evans) which was the first appearance of this short ghost story in the United Kingdom. NB: Wodehouse subsequently added a framing device in which the story is told by the character of Mr Mulliner and it is this version which appears in the 1927 short story collection Meet Mr Mulliner. It is considered by Wodehouse himself to be one of his funniest stories and the story has been viewed as a homage to the writer, Henry James. The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein thought it the funniest thing he had ever read, according to his memoir. This issue is highly prized by collectors of both Conan Doyle and P G Wodehouse. Issue No 410. Rare. Photographs/scans available upon request. Seller Inventory # 355490720765
