Item description from seller

379 pp; 104 illustrations of Strads (the illustrations are not numbered but I counted them). 4to. Top edge gilt. Original hardcover binding but I do not know if it is cloth (as some say) or faux leather (as others say). Tiny tears at top & bottom of spine. Bottom corners of covers bumped (see photo). Very Good. This copy does NOT have any library markings. First Edition. Copy no. 461 (of 1400 copies). This copy does not have the errata slip or the slipcase. NOTE ABOUT PRICES AND AVAILABILITY (in May 2026): A book printed in 1400 copies only 80 years ago is not likely to be scarce in 2026. And this book is not scarce, although copies retaining the loose errata slip and the original slipcase are less common (this copy, like most others on the market, lacks both). There are also copies signed by Ernest Doring. This copy is not signed. Yet there is a wide range of prices, from under $100 (like this one) to $1200. In 1999 an enlarged edition of 464 pp, in folio format, was published, limited to 300 copies (In May 2026, I see 3 copies of the 1999 edition priced from $130 to $1000).
