Item description from seller

First Indian edition. 8vo. Original pictorial wrappers with a design after the author's father, John Lockwood Kipling, housed in a half red morocco clamshell case with gilt title to spine. Allahabad, A.H. Wheeler & Co. A rare first issue of the second book in Kipling's Indian Railway Library. Richards notes that the cover drawing illustrating the lovers is of Trix, Rudyard's beautiful and witty younger sister, who was at the time in an on-off engagement.  A very good copy. Former owner's signature to front cover and title page. Wrappers with light browning, minor wear and new backing to spine. Occasional foxing spots.  Richards A15.
