Full-page illustrations by the author including a map, 249pp. 23.5 x 17.4cm. Original pictorial maroon cloth, prior owner's label on the front pastedown, endpapers and edges foxed, spine faintly sunned, head and tail of spine with abrasions but a very good copy, the text and illustrations are still bright and clean. A copy of the first edition, first impression, in the second issue binding, with the more durable white pigment used for the lettering and decoration. The white blocking on the first issue binding was notoriously prone to flaking and was replaced early in the binding process with a more stable pigment; copies such as this, in which the white lettering and decoration remain well preserved, are consequently described as being in the second issue binding. Both cloth bindings were used for copies of the first impression.

Shipping terms
The shipping prices quoted on ABEBooks reflect what we have found to be the "average book". Of course in reality there are many books that do not weigh what an "average book" weighs so there are times when we need to requote shipping, just as there are times when we are in position to refund some of the shipping. Please rest assured we try to get your order to you for a reasonable price, as quickly and as well packed (we carefully pack all of our parcels in book boxes) as possible.
