First edition, 8vo (9 1/2" x 6"), pp. (i-v), vi-vii, (8-9), 10-494, uncut & partially unopened. This volume, covering the Washington administration, 1789-1796, was the sixth volume of State Papers published by Wait after the the first five volumes, beginning with the Jefferson administration, were published: (1)1801-06, (2) 1806-08, (3) 1808-09, (4) 1089-1811, & (5) 1811-15. It became, of course, the first volume of the eventual 8 volumes set and volumes II (1797) and III 1791-1801 were also added. Each volume is independently complete for each period. They comprise the first compilation of American State Papers. Sabin 90637. Attractive burgundy hard grain morocco backed old boards, back in six compartments gilt lettered in the second, five raised bands between gilt double fillets. Fine attractive re-backing of good old boards, sheets age toned, with partial water stain mostly to upper part of pages at the beginning & at the end, unmarked, complete.
