The front cover is stained from the top to one inch down and there are couple areas damaged (by insects). The paper is worn away at the corners, especially at the bottom corner and there is a separate hole along the bottom fore edge. The back cover upper edge is darkened from age and the lower edge shows shelf wear. There are also insect holes in the paper along the back cover fore edge. The spine is intact, but the paper along the spine is mostly separated from the board backing and the gold printing is rubbed away in areas. The deckled leaf edges show age and handling. The preliminary pages are stained and show moderate foxing. There is a hole that goes through to the board on the gutter of the end paper. Penciled notes from a former book seller remain on the front free end paper. The back free end paper and a few pages inward are stained and show foxing. The interior pages have no markings but have minor stains and foxing on some pages. A blank page at the front has two dedications from previous owners written in ink, one dated 1912 and the other 1919. Please see all photos. The Star-Treader and Other Poems, written by Smith at the age of 19, was his first volume of poetry and his breakout hit. Known as one of the last of the great romantic poets. His variations in poetic form and rhyme, his depth of extreme emotions, his engagement with the natural world, and his preoccupation with the concepts of Beauty and Death are just a few of the qualities.
