Item description from seller

1966 First edition. Hardcover, near fine+ in good dustjacket. DJ shows some scuffing, a 1 1/2 inch and a 3 inch tear along fold of front flap, 1 inch tear top edge, several lesser nicks and chips; price present. Book has upper corner of front board bumped, with a 1/4 inch nick there, o/w tight, clean, almost crisp and probably never read. Honest, open and frank autobiography of an Italian-American from Jersey City, covering the period from 1934-1966, in which he describes his motives for becoming a priest, life in the seminary, work in a blue collar urban parish, and his eventual decision to leave, and thus suffer excommunication, because he could not accept the Church's policy of priestly celibacy. He eventually had to take a job loading vegetables in the old Washington Market (site of the World Trdae Center) , and married and raised a family. Particularly germane for the current time! Autobiography; religion; Roman Catholic; priests; clergy.

Store description

Nestled in a valley in the Endless Mountains, where the temperature can dip below freezing even in mid-June, sits Frost Pocket Farm. While our harvest of organic produce may be subject to the whims of nature, the crop of books is always a good one. The selection is as varied as the interests of its proprietor. A native of NYC, who dissipated his youth and more mature years in used bookstores and reading, as well as earning degrees in history, biology, banking and counseling plus studying 2 years at the University of Paris, he is constantly acquiring quaint and curious volumes, as well as the more mundane, on every imaginable subject. Low overhead means low prices geared towards the trade and the savvy retail client. To the extent possible, we use recycled packaging material (economy and ecology are both dervied from the same Greek root), and all books are shipped in corrugated cardboard. Every attempt is made to accurately describe the books, including their faults, and everything is completely guaranteed! (Sorry, we are strictly mail order, and due to insurance and other concerns cannot accomodate visitors.) On-line booksellers since 1996; ancient for this business!…
