About this Item
Octavo, gray cloth lettered in gilt. First edition. A presentation copy, inscribed: "For Mr. Richard Watson Gilder, my husband's faithful friend of many years; with thanks for his kindness --- Kate Upson Clark, June 8, 1903." Gilder, an accomplished poet, was the longtime editor of the "Century Magazine." His colleague, Edward P. Clark, was a much-respected editorial writer for the "New York Evening Post," which his wife Kate Upson Clark edited, along with publishing several children's books, short stories, and a novel. In a tribute printed at the end of this volume, Gilder called Clark "one of the ablest and best-informed journalists in America." A moving presentation copy with a distinguished provenance.
