About this Item

First Edition (NAP, The Free Press= NAP). This book is in very solid condition. As you can see, the covers are very clean. The two top corners have only tiny spots of rub-through. The six edges are in excellent condition. The dark blue of the front and rear has faded and dulled on the spine. The lettering there no longer jumps out at you, but is legible. There's a crease just above the bottom edge of the spine and there's a little bit of crinkling below it. The top page edge is a pinkish red. All three page edges are very clean. The book is quite square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. The covers are also tight. The pages are exceptionally clean. I scrolled through a number of times without finding any instances of soiling. That's also the case for the white inside covers and end papers. The pages are also in excellent condition. I'm not finding any conspicuous creasing. There are no markings. There are no attachments. There is a small penned name ('Deutsch') on the front inside cover. There's no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. This 1949 first edition is pretty rare and the few other copies for sale (all lacking their dust jacket as well) are priced above mine, most well above mine. This despite the excellent condition of the book here for sale. 'Robert K. Merton is unarguably one of the most influential sociologists of his time. A figure whose wide-ranging theoretical and methodological contributions have become fundamental to the field. Merton is best known for introducing such concepts and procedures as unanticipated consequences, self-fulfilling prophecies, focused group interviews, middle-range theory, opportunity structure, and analytic paradigms. You have the right to cancel this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.

The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the the last good or the last lot or piece.

To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform us, Rareeclectic, P.O. 155, 10576, pound ridge, New York, U.S.A., 1 347-675-2712, of your decision to cancel this contract by a clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post, fax or e-mail). You may use the attached model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. You can also electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

Effects of cancellation

Exceptions to the right of cancellation
