Condition: Fair. First edition (hardback). 4to (28cm by 21cm), 77pp. Illustrated throughout in b&w by Harry B Neilson, plus a colour frontispiece. Original printed orange boards with colour illustration to the front board. Lacks the backstrip, the boards are rather rubbedlacks the front free endpaper, there are some pictures glued to the front pastedown, and the contents are a little thumbed. FIRST EDITION. 4to. 8.5 x 11 inches. 77 pp. + [1]. Title page and verso in red and black. In original coloured pictorial front board, neatly rebacked with recent cloth spine. Some wear to extremities but otherwise a very good copy. 1913 gift inscription on second free endpaper. Illustrated by colour frontispiece and numerous drawings in black and white, many full page. The frontispiece and first poem illustrate a little black girl with her Golliwog but most of the illustrations depict anthropomorphised animals with several hunting and sporting scenes. Harry Bingham Nielson (1861-1941) was a children's book illustrator who also worked on magazines and comics. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Pictorial boards, spine ends and corners worn, else a bright, clean copy. Illustrated with a color frontis depicting a little black girl and a golliwogg. Illustrated in line on every page, both full and partial page. There are other stereotypical depictions and black dialect, but also verses about animals and images of humanized animals. First editions are uncommon, particularly in nice condition. Size: 4to.
