Item description from seller

Hardcover containing the first four monthly issues of "The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness." Boards and spine show a bit of discoloration; binding tight; pages clean. All pages from the magazine, though alas, none of the covers or advertisements. "The Smart Set" continued publication until 1930 as a literary take on New York's "Four Hundred." The magazine's heyday arrived in 1908 and '09, when the magazine hired H.L. Mencken and George Jean Nathan as book and drama critics, but it was striking from the first issue. An uncommon volume. 648 pages total. 2.7 pounds.

Store description

Hi all! I've been accumulating volumes for well over half my life, mostly autographed and inscribed copies. Wrote a book on book collecting for a Random House imprint in 2004 and another, "Book Collecting Now: The Value of Print in a Digital Age," for Chatwin Books, published in 2019. I intended to keep most of these books forever, but my wife and I decided to move to Manhattan, which meant downsizing from an enormous suburban house, with practically unlimited bookshelf space, to an apartment in Greenwich Village. So hello, AbeBooks!
