Bound in original publisher's dark red textured paper-covered boards, "Sketches in Shanghai" lettered in gilt on front cover, with very dark blue leather spine and outer corners, spine ruled in gilt but not lettered, publisher's label in upper left corner of front pastedown [photo] "Printed and Bound at Sh. Mercury Office, Foochow Road, Shanghai."; measuring 28x22 cm overall; title page, contents page, text paginated [1]-113, internally clean tight and unmarked better than VG condition. The covers show edge rubbing and pieces of dark red paper missing, see photos, bottom inch of spine leather also missing. front free endpaper somewhat roughly removed, leaving small traces. This is a scarce example of documented Shanghai binding of the period, with label. Seller Inventory # 021639
