Item description from seller

Small Octavo. 408 pages. The binding measures 8 inches tall by 5 3/8 inches wide. Hardcover bound in black quarter leather with brown cloth-covered boards. The binding is rubbed and bumped with scuffing to the leather spine and the boards. Spine ends especially rubbed. The cloth boards show heavy pale spotting. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. The second front flyleaf has an inscription reading "Ernest P. Bennett / Fort Scott, Kansas". Illustrated with a number of nice text engravings. These books were published at a time when children were expected to read actual literature and scenes from history, including events from American History. Some of the numerous authors include Harriet Beecher Stowe, Daniel Webster, Washington Irving, Henry Clay, Edward Everett, Walter Scott, Edmund Burke, Leigh Hunt, James Fenimore Cooper, Byron, Longfellow, Tennyson, Whittier, Emerson, Shelley, Milton, Shakespeare and others. …

Store description

Pages Past is a small used and antiquarian bookshop holding 10,000-15,000 volumes. We are located a few blocks from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Most of our books are hardback, although we have a few bookcases of paperbacks with recent fiction and classic literature represented. We also have a fairly good collection of Eastern Philosophy & Religion (Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism) as well as New Age. Most of these are recent paperbacks in nice condition. We have a good collection of antiquarian books in the fields of Americana, old leather bound books, and early religious and scholarly books. Shop hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. We're closed on Sundays. We are always interested in buying quality books in very good condition.…
