233 pp. Dark brown embossed cloth with gilt title on spine. Spine ends chipped, stains to boards and paste-downs. A few interior leaves are lightly creased without affecting legibility. Book plate of Edward W. Kinsley (Boston merchant and abolitionist) on front paste-down, Kinsley's signature on first free end-paper. Slight rubbing to square corners. Text block square, clean and tight throughout. Collection of essays from the early eighteenth century (1711-12). Spectator magazine which offered political commentary through the character of Sir Roger, a hearty, humorous, plain old gentleman. Size: 12mo.

The Chatham Bookseller has been in historic Madison, NJ for more than fifty years. Ours is a general shop which emphasizes good literature, art and scholarly books in many different fields. We specialize in rare books, modern first editions and ephemera. The shop is open six days a week and we encourage browsing. We are happy to bring out books listed online upon request.
