Like all the titles in this series, A Simple Guide to WinZip & PKZip is a handy, pocket-sized guide packed with almost as much information as door-stopping tomes on the same subject. Originally published and produced in design-conscious France, these aesthetically pleasing guides have been translated into functional if sometimes puzzling English. (What, exactly, does "parameterizing" mean?)

A Simple Guide to Scanning & Manipulating Images includes information on how to choose the best equipment, send images securely by e-mail, manipulate and retouch images, install the necessary hardware and software and the step-by-step process of scanning images. The coverage of the installation process is almost overly comprehensive, but the section on graphical manipulation packages is clear and concise, like most of this straightforward and informative guide to image processing. --JoshSmith
