The first edition, first impression of this work, with 'assumption' rather than 'assumptions' on page 109, line 28, as called for. In the scarce publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.Featuring 'medical jurispractitioner' Dr. John Evelyn Thorndyke, a medical doctor turned detective who features in 21 novels and 40 short stories from Freeman, solving murders with his forensic methods. Many of the Dr. Thorndyke stories involve genuine, but sometimes arcane, points of scientific knowledge, from areas such as tropical medicine, metallurgy and toxicology. Freeman ensured that his methods were practical by conducting all experiments mentioned in the stories himself. With the inscription of G. Herrenden Harker to the front free endpaper, dated 26.v.27. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Light fading to back strip tail, otherwise externally, excellent.
