About this Item
Octavo. One of only 200 copies privately printed by the author. Three unsewn sections comprising 43 pages and 3 loosely inserted plates giving 4 portraits. The whole inserted in a paper wrapper. "Serjeant" was a title for a senior barrister. Serjeant Thomas was a friend/patron/business partner of Millais'. The two parted company and it was later maintained in a book, that Thomas had exploited him. Ralph Thomas writes here to refute the claim. A portrait of Thomas by Millais is held in The Tate Gallery.
