Jacket Condition: . 1st Edition thus, 12 x 18.5 cm green cloth with gilt stamped decoration and titles to the front and spine. Top edge gilt, xxviii, 389[3]pp with 64 line drawn illustrations by Chris Hammond as called for. [Gilson E94] A lovely copy in much better condition than is often found and in original, untouched condition with bright gilt decoration and titles. There is the usual toning to the spine which extends just onto the front board, with a touch of rubbing to the head and a little pushing to the foot. There is a little light marking to the lower board, together with minor pushing to the corners. Internally, without name, inscription or bookplate but with some toning and spotting to the prelims (particularly ffep/half title - see images) and last few pages. The rest of the book is clean with only the occasional light handling mark and very faint spotting to the edge of the text block. Christiana Mary Demain Hammond was the first woman to fully illustrate some of Jane Austen's novels, also completing editions of Pride & Prejudice and Emma before her, sadly early, death at the age of 30 in 1900. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care. Seller Inventory # 202872
