[Intelligence/espionage] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (24 x 16cm), pp.285; [1], blank. With black & white plates. Publisher's black cloth with gilt titles to spine, illustrated dust-jacket priced £16.95. A lovely fine copy. 'Rygor-S owikowski' was a Polish Army officer whose intelligence work in North Africa facilitated Allied preparations for the 1942 Operation Torch landings. Described as "the only allied agent with a network in North Africa", he was awarded the American Legion of Merit and Poland's Gold Cross of Merit with Swords. Following demobilisation in 1947, he settled in London. Gilbert, p.639-40.
