Sally Brinton, Quaker, visits her cousin Dorothea in Richmond, and through her quick sympathies grasps the essentials of the upheaval in her relatives' lives as their home is about to pass into the hands of a contemptible southerner who disdains the traditions of his neighbors. Sally hates to go home, but finds that the quiet village near Philadelphia to which her family had moved, provided plenty of excitement as part of the Underground Railway. Adventure, mystery, and a tense climax as Sally outwits the sheriff to save some of her old friends from Virginia, provide a good story, with sound analysis of some of the problems of the South, nice boys and girls -- and, of course, some spaniels. A clean presentable copy. Seller Inventory # 017414
