The Search for a New Beginning: Developing a New Civilization by Mikhail S. Gorbachev Mikhail S. Gorbachev, black cloth with gilt lettering. HarperCollins, 1995. Limited Edition, 1st Edition. Thirty years ago, who would have envisioned a former president of the Soviet Union eloquently invoking the speeches of JFK and William Faulkner's prose, as well as Native American words of wisdom? Moreover, who could have imagined that this same statesman would advocate a new, global civilization built on diversity, democracy, environmental awareness, mutual responsibility, peace, and trust? In The Search for a New Beginning, Mikhail Gorbachev - the man instrumental in the end of the Cold War - turns his gaze to the future of politics, nations, and individuals.
