Item description from seller

Octavo, xi, [1], 19-394pp, [errata]. Publisher's cloth, boards stamped in blind, title in gilt on the spine. Spine was re-laid over new cloth, hinges reinforced. Presumably damaged in the bindery fire in 1866, which left only 100 copies, all of which needed repairs to the binding. Notable wear along boards, rubbing with loss of cloth. Complete with twenty-five full-page engravings, including the portrait frontispiece of Corporal Pike. All plates with notable toning, light foxing. This copy bears the ownership inscription of the Woodrow family of Hillsboro, Ohio, where the author wrote the book. He enlisted in the 4th Ohio Cavalry and served extensively as a scout and spy behind Confederate lines in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
