Illustrated by two photogravure frontispieces, six original sketches in photogravure by Dr. E.A. Wilson, eighteen coloured plates (sixteen from drawings by Dr. Wilson), 260 full page and smaller illustrations from photographs taken by Herbert G. Ponting and other members of the expedition, two fold-out panoramas, and several fold-out maps. Volume one is the journal of Captain R.F. Scott, volume two contains the reports of the journeys and the scientific work undertaken by Dr. E.A. Wilson and the surviving members of the expedition. Arranged by Leonard Huxley, with a preface by Sir Clements R. Markham, K.C.B., F.R.S. Both volumes lack their dust jackets. The written record of Scott's final journey to the Antarctic, rife with photographs of the equipment, camps, sled-dogs, penguins and mountains that Scott and his team encountered. A nice set of this important work in the history of polar exploration. A Very Good set with scattered foxing throughout the pages, a small separation between the backstrip and the textblock of both volumes, and light wear to the edges of the boards.
