Black panels are bright and clean; pages are bright white and lay tight; seemingly unread. Silver titles on spine are bright and unblemished. Binding and hinges are sound. One gently, barely pushed corner tip. Original attractive DJ shows minor shelf-rubbing and a small closed edge tear on bottom rear. Iin the 1930s and early 1940s, Polish mathematicians from the Lwów School of Mathematics met and spent their afternoons discussing mathematical problems in The Scottish Cafe. Among them was Stanis?aw Ulam who would become a participant in the Manhattan Project and who proposed the Teller-Ulam design of thermonuclear weapons, Stefan Banach one of the founders of functional analysis, Hugo Steinhaus, Karol Borsuk, Kazimierz Kuratowski, Mark Kac and many other notable mathematicians. Within these pages are notes from their notebooks, and the mathematical equations they worked on together; some of which remain unsolved today. A most collectible copy of the mathematical classic.
