First edition thus. 8vo. 429pp. Full brown straight grained calf by Zaehnsdorf, with gilt fillet borders, 5 raised bands, with dark green title labels and gilt decorated compartments of swirling fleurons, inner dentelles and brown marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, with the original brown silk ribbon page marker. 15 full page colour and 35 full page black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson and the first Hugh Thomson illustrated book to include illustrations in colour. A very near fine copy.
