Exiled from the Valleys, divorced, and pushing forty, Inspector Evans is wedded to the Force and fancied for promotion. Nigel Buxton has just taken silk, and with it caught the eye of a powerful mentor. Grace Yardley is thirty-six, secure, serene and elegant, a successful career woman and devoted mother.
