Published in 1809, this is the First Edition of the Thomas Rowlandson illustrated edition of Baron Munchausen, bound in an old half leather binding, illustrated with a folding frontispiece and a further eight plates, nine in total, a small slim format measuring 7 inches by 4 inches approx., the binding and marbled paper are a little rubbed else in good solid condition, internally bookplates of two former owners to front endpapers, front endpaper has a tear with minimal loss, and some cracking to inner joint, though binding still firm, (see pictures) frontispiece has been neatly backed, but is noticeably browned with some splits at fold lines, there is a thinned area with some slight tearing damage to title page (see pictures that show both front and rear of that spot) some browning and foxing to the plates with noticeable offsetting to the opposing pages of text, page 49 (pictured) has been over trimmed and is slightly shorter and browned than the adjacent pages, there are a few small areas of loss to a few plain page margins where uncut pages have been roughly opened (see pictures) a few creases else contents in good general condition. Bound without the half title page, A generally good acceptable example of the First Rowlandson illustrated edition of this classic. Seller Inventory # 003362
