In recent years increased mediaeval studies and a renewal of Catholic theology have penetrated Thomas's disguise as quasi~official theologian to the Roman Catholic church, and confirmed his true stature as one of the greatest minds the West has known. In the Summa he synthesizes with immense scholarship and brilliance Aristotelian learning on the nature of the world and man with the biblical teaching on God's loving purpose in creating them, and he develops answers to many of man's deepest questions: Is there a God? Is the being of the world the doing of God? Is such creation reconcilable with evil? Where do chance and determinism fit in? How can mind and body be one in man? How do we know and do we freely will? What makes actions good or bad? What is law and what is virtue? These questions are not given isolated answers but are bricks in the architecture of a whole, a 'comprehensive theology' in which God the Father speaks out his eternal love in the historical life of Jesus Christ still sacramentally alive in the world, enabling mankind whose misused power has brought creation to ruin to share God's nature and be the instrument of creation's salvaging. Now for the first time the whole of the Summa is available in this concisely distilled translation in a form which will appeal both to professional students and to interested general readers of whatever intellectual persuasion.…

Review
The real meat of St. Thomas has been captured here with remarkable good judgement, and it is in fact a fresh stimulation experience to read Aquinas' doctrine on a given point gathered all together.
