Limited edition. Softcover. Folio. 24 pp. Introduction in French. Facsimile set of Gauguin's monthly magazine, nine issues (complete) plus 5leaves of facsimile woodcuts. Number 619 of 1000 copies. Unbound, in publisher's portfolio. Linen portfolio folder has Tahitian stencil design with mounted woodcut title. Portfolio folder has scuffing, light soiling and rubbing to edges. Interior folder has foxing, but prints and text are clean. "Le Sourire was a monthly periodical published by the French artist Paul Gauguin. The editions contained satirical copy with one of his woodcuts used for the header. A total of nine editions were printed during August 1899 and April 1900, between his stays in Tahiti and the Marquesas Islands."-wikipedia.
